Day 2 (March 17,2013)-
Today’s GRS post is “Negotiating for perks when raises are off the table“.
I am a substitute teacher for our local school system – there’s no such thing as merit raises or employee benefits in this line of work, but it’s worth it to me to have scheduling flexibility, so at first, today’s GRS post didn’t seem relevant in any way.
Then a thought occurred to me as I was sitting in church today:I wonder how many businesses offer teacher discounts on their products/services?
And so to Google … and holy cow! I am embarrassed to say that I have probably been paying too much for just about everything since going to work for the school district!
The folks at Brad’s Deals have a list of over 90 places that offer teacher discounts – what I’ve learned today and will now practice: ask for a teacher discount every time I purchase something.
